Church on the Rock
‘a church for today’s generation’
Doctrinal Statement of Faith
1. The Scriptures
We believe that the sixty-six books of the Bible are the inspired, infallible and inerrant Word of God. It is the supreme and final authority for all we believe and how we are to live.
2. The Godhead
We believe that the one true God exists eternally in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and that these, being one God, are equal in deity, power, and glory. We believe that God not only created the world but also upholds, sustains, and lovingly governs and guides all that exists.
3. God the Father
We believe in God the Father, creator of Heaven and Earth, the only living, true God. He is perfect in Holiness, infinite in wisdom, and completely sovereign. He is worthy of all praise, trust, obedience, and love. He is mercifully involved in the affairs of men, hears and answers prayer, and saves from sin by grace all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.
4. The Lord Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, that He was conceived and born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and offered himself as a substitutionary sacrifice for sinners. By the blood of His cross Jesus obtained for us eternal redemption, the forgiveness of sins, and life everlasting. He was raised bodily on the third day and ascended to the right hand of the Father forty days later to make intercession for the saints.
5. The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, which He was sent to be the comforter to the body of Christ, as well as to convict all men of sin. He also regenerates, baptizes, indwells, seals and sets apart believers to live a holy life according to God’s Word.
6. Man
We believe that Adam was originally created in the image of God, and without sin. Because of the sin of disobedience in Adam’s life, and the subsequent ratification of his sin by all humankind, therefore; all men are separated from God by their choice and nature, and are in need of redemption.
7. Salvation
We believe that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone; and is offered as a free gift to all men. We believe that repentance and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Savior, is the only response acceptable to receive God’s gift of eternal life.
8. The Church
We believe that the church is God’s primary instrument through which He is fulfilling His redemptive purposes in the earth. To equip the saints for the work of the ministry, God has given the church apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. We also affirm the priesthood of all believers and the importance of every Christian participating in a local church, with a priority of living a Christian life and a goal towards spiritual growth. We believe that women, no less than men, are called and gifted to proclaim the gospel and do the works of the kingdom.
9. Lifestyle
We believe that water baptism and the Lord’s Supper are two ordinances of the church t be observed until the time of Christ’s return. They are not a means of salvation but are channels of God’s sanctifying grace and blessing to the faithful in Christ Jesus. We also believe that a Christian’s life should be Christ-centered in all areas and based on the word of God; this is to include human sexuality and marriage. God, in His Word, clearly, authoritatively, and conclusively speaks to the issue of human sexuality and this is therefore an undebatable issue.
10. The Future
We believe that when a Christian dies he/she passes immediately into the blessed presence of Christ. We also believe in the personal, visible, bodily return of Jesus Christ to Earth, the bodily resurrection of the saved to eternal life in Heaven with Christ, and the bodily resurrection of the unjust to judgment and everlasting separation as punishment in the Lake of Fire.
